Strattera causing increase in anxiety?

Posted by Maria3667 on July 25, 2007, at 9:24:49

Just recently I've started on Strattera to combat depression. It seems to work for that nicely, but now I'm noticing an increase in anxiety.

I'm only on 10 mgs because I'm very sensitive to meds. I've been taken it for 2 weeks now.

Does anyone know it the anxiety is a lasting side effect or does it subside after a while?

Please help!
Maria

It is possable. I noticed some increase in anxiety on strattera. You might try combining it with a beta blocker such as attenolol or propranolol, although I don't know if that might abolish the AD effect.

I personally combatted this side effect with camomile tea.

Hi Link,

Thanks for replying.
Does this side effect last forever? Or does it subside after a while?

I suppose I could squash the anxiety with a benzo but then I'd be trading in one problem for another.

It may reduce, as noradrenergic receptors adapt.

Yes, it may reduce with time. However, anxiety induced by noradrenergic drugs never improved over time with me. That's probably why I can't tolerate caffeine or chocolate.

Does chamomile interact with any receptors that you know of?

I took Strattera a few years ago and I got some anxiety after taking it for a short time. it sedated me at first.

The anxiety seemed to pass rather quickly-a couple weeks or so. I was almost hypomanic rather than just purely anxious.

I think you are smart to go slow and keep it low with Strattera. I started feeling really funky on it after about 4 months then noticed yellowing of my eyes and liver pain. I never wen above 40 and mostly stayed lower.

Take Care,
Kaye

Chamomile has some gabaergic effect. Apparently increasing gylcine levels too.
