Have only tried Neurontin.

Started at 300mg./day. Modest anxiolytic effect plus gentle mood improvement. Lasted for about 6 mos., then I no longer noticed it. Bumped up to 400mg./day and got back the anxiolytic effect.

Now after a couple of years, I don't notice it at all but think it has a subtle anxiolytic background effect. Sort of like a benzo, in that over time one no longer feels the initial "buzz" effect, but the anxiolytic effect remains.

For me (Bipolar II, Generalized Social Phobia), no mood stabilizing properties.

No problems with insomnia, so can't speak to that.
