Stopping Cytomel after 7 years

Posted by Forte562 on April 21, 2007, at 17:53:33

Some of you may have seen my question about thyroid testing and timing of cytomel. I think there is a good chance I need to quit cytomel after 7 years at 25 mcg and a few weeks at 37.5 mcg. Does anyone here have experience with this? A few questions (and I realize you probably cannot know the answers for sure - I guess I'm scared. Questions are 1) will my thyroid be able to take over without any type of thyroid meds? 2)is it best to taper off or just "cold turkey" if you have become hyperthyroid. I have not been feeling well for a while and have been having mood swings. Now I think it is probably because of the cytomel. I just hope I haven't screwed up my system permanently and can get through whatever transition I need to do. I have gone from Fri. 37.5 1X to Sat. 25 mcg in 2 doses so while I'm waiting for another blood level result, should I stay there for tomorrow (Sunday)? I guess I'm thinking what might be the easiest on my mind and body. Thank you for any perspectives you could give.

I did find this link of a previous discussion http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20040730/msgs/372698.html
where gardengirl had some previous experience with weaning off cytomel. Gardengirl, if you are still around, how did you do after you became hyperthyroid from cytomel, if you don't mind my asking?
