In my last post, I mentioned that I was going to discuss going on EMSAM with my doc. I'm currently on Zoloft, Geodon, Remeron, Klonopin and Desoxyn (for ADD).
Well I just got back from the appointment. What he told me was that if my goal was to replicate the wonderful Nardil euphoria that I experienced when the med was at its peak, I would eventually be disappointed.
He said that while it's possible that I would experience it again with a different MAO (he actually recommended Parnate b/c he says it's more powerful), but he said that eventually it would peter out to normal levels.
So as of today, I'm going to go off all my meds (except for the Klonopin) and if in two weeks I didn't regress to a depression, he would put me on Parnate. He recommended that over Emsam, b/c he says it's a more powerful med.

Best of luck with your new program. I hope everything goes well.As to whether Parnate is more "powerful" than Nardil or Emsam, I'll defer to others with a better scientific background, but I thought the real difference was between Parnate/Nardil and Emsam in that Emsam was more selective on the B side while Parnate/Nardil worked both A and B. I thought the result was that Parnate/Nardil worked on serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, while Emsam worked mostly dopamine to a similar degree.
Am I wrong?

Yes. Apparently, the remeron, geodon and zoloft don't have any serious withdrawal effects (or so he tells me).
I'll keep ya'll posted :-)

Unrelated question, but how the heck did you ever get your doc to prescribe you Desoxyn?
Most docs, understandably, avoid prescribing that like the plague.

No comparision from what Ive heard. But thats not to say a stronger MAOI will help more.
Hope you have a good Parnate trail, and then there is Emsam if it does not work out.

> MalcolmHey,
Wasn't Desoxyn a good AD?, it's supposed to be considering it's profile:
psychostimulant:
5-HT release +++
NE release +++
DA release ++
DA reuptake inhibition
NE reuptake inhibitionI don't know what dose your taking, but many folks would keep it and stay with the Klono or another benzo.
I wonder how you came to be scripted it? sure it's not as good as the discontinued Desoxyn Gradumets SR, but it's Desoxyn all the same.
Cheers

It really did wonders for the narcolepsy (though not so much for the ADD, which is what I was really taking it for). I NEVER ever got tired or fatigued during the day. And that in and of itself was enough of a reason for me to take it.
If you're asking how I got my doc to agree to prescribe a controlled substance, it wasn't a problem. He's a well-respected psychopharmacologist in DC and has heard of and used drugs that many other docs aren't familiar with. So I guess I was lucky in that respect.
The thing is that I have to give up the Desoxyn b/c I'm going to be starting Parnate (or Emsam) in two weeks, provided I don't regress. He says combining the two is an absolute no-no, and I defer to his judgement.
