bupropion versus budeprion

Posted by Psych 234 on February 13, 2007, at 12:05:04

I have taken Wellbutrin XL brand name for several years. With it, I had no symptoms of depression or medication side effects. Two years ago and again last month, my insurance company switched my prescription to Budeprion XL. Both times, I had a return of depressed mood, flat affect (which is not much facial expression), and feelings of impending doom. I also had sudden startle reactions inside my body, even though I didn't have any startling thoughts or surprising events.
After 1 month of the Budeprion, I will see my doctor tomorrow for an authorization to return to Wellbutrin XL brand name.
It's not "all in your head." In some cases there are differences in brand names, generics, and different companies. I've taken a generic medication for high blood pressure for many years and it works great.
In addition, I have been a therapist (mental health)in practice for 15 years, so I feel confident in what I plan to report to my doctor tomorrow. Maybe this could help others to do the same.

I've experienced the generic vs brandname myself. There is a difference with many meds. Good luck in getting your brandname back. I'm confident you will since you know the in's and out's. Love Phillipa

a similar discussion has been going on further up on this board:

maybe you could post follow ups in that thread so all bupropion vs budeprion users can assess for themselves with our collective info.

good luck on getting namebrand back.

what a drag so many have gone through this already w/ less than positive effects.

I always have my pdoc write DAW (Dispense as Written)on all my prescriptions. My experience with generics has not been good.

It sucks if your insurance company isn't letting your doctor decide what medication is right for you.

The insurance company share holders have too much power in that area if you ask me.

ok i have a different problem. I took budeprin to start with. i thought i was fine. and no side effects ( although im usually very sensitive)
now my pharmacy has given me bupropion! supposedly its the same. meaning both are generic of wellbutrin but made by diffent companies. and also im out of country now! so, just past 3-4 days that i took the new version, i feel that i have done crazy things, meaning too much self confidence now! i even emailed a professor and proved him wrong in my email.
i was wondering since you guys are on the same thing (the brand) do you feel over confident? im not sure if this is a bad side effect or good. but im 100% sure i feel differnt than before. ( i guess kind of feeling of a mania thinking u know everything and can do everything)
im really not sure if this is good or bad! i thought it was bad, and i should switch back, but now i was thinking this might help if makes me over confident
what you guys think? if you know anything please let me know, since i dont have access to my doc neihter!
thanks alot
