hi, i have just started taking lamictal at 12.5mg and will b titrating up slowly. At the moment im looking into the NMDA/ glutamate system as i believe this may be the main cause of my problems due to a good response to theanine (but it makes me depressed after-lyk a benzo!!) and the fact that i seem to be suffering from a seemingly intaractable magnesium deficiency.
What are lamictals effects?? Does it indirectly antagonise the NMDA receptors through the reduction of glutamate?? Does it effect any of the neurotransmitters??
replies would be gratefully received!!

In reply to lamictal....what effects does it have???, posted by rovers95 on October 25, 2006, at 21:00:00
I could not tell you its chemical effects whatsoever -- although I would be interested to know. I can tell you that Lamictal helps to keep me in gear instead of going in reverse. I have a tendency to ruminate over events of the past, relive them, etc. It can be very crippling. When I forget to take Lamictal for a couple of days, this comes rushing back, and my wife and I will figure out together that I haven't taken it. It truly is a mood stabilizer, even though I'm not manic. I am looking for another agent to brighten mood and increase energy ... hoping Emsam might help.
