According to Reuters Health News, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved quetiapine (Seroquel) for the treatment of bipolar depression.
The drug is already licensed in the UK and USA for the treatment of acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.

Hi PJ

Yes, it's off-label. Although Seroquel can be effective for anxiety and insomnia, and can be effective when other treatment have not worked, part of its popularity seems to have resulted from a reluctance to prescribe benzos and hypnotics.
