Lithium and weight gain

Posted by HEART~ on August 20, 2006, at 11:31:32

Thanks for the replies from earlier. But uh no one really answered one of the questions I posted: when and at what dose did you notice the weight gain? Dr. is thinking of starting me at low low dose...anyone else out there on a low low dose and what was your experience with weight gain and side effects?

Thanks alot

I take 750 and I don't think I have had any weight gain from it. I have gained a little lately, but I think it is due to Effexor, not Li.

The weight gain is USUALLY water retention as Lithium is a salt. Drink as much water as possible to flush yourself out (don't overdo it). Also, longterm, lithium can mess up your thyroid and you can become hypothyroid.
