I've read several people talking about hormone testing. I know it's important to have your thyroid tested. But what else?
What other hormone tests are indicated when one is diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder?
I have a gynecologist appointment in August and would like to talk to her about this. I know they look at FSH levels relative to (peri)menopause, but is that relevant for depression too? I mean, is there any related treatment, or would they just say "oh, you're perimenopausal, no wonder your depressed?"
Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't have any references on this,
but i think it's well known that
androgen, corticosteroids, estrogens,
and other primary hormones are very
important in moods. As you get older, a decline in these
hormones may effect some people. For
example women may get depressed after
menopause, and similarly men (declining
in androgen).Unfortunately, it takes an old-fashioned
psychiatrist to consider these, as
brain hormones and MRIs are au courrant.I would go to an endocrinologist - they
are the creme de la creme in medicine.Squiggles

You're OB-GYN can do the hormone testing, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone. I'm planning on doing the same thing. I know what you mean about the FSH it's worthless. Love Phillipa
