Horrifying micrographia anyone?

Posted by fuchsia on June 24, 2006, at 9:34:40

Has anyone noticed that they had teeny weeny handwriting during their worst depression/s? I mean really really teeny weeny?

I got such a shock when I looked in a journal I had been keeping when I was rapid cycling. Can you get this with depression or does it mean it could be parkinsons?

I have also had tiny handwriting when severely depressed. After I improved, my pdoc said, “At least you don’t have that teeny tiny writing anymore." The changes in my handwriting had nothing to do with Parkinson’s disease.

Thanks for answering Craig. My depression is of the bipolar II variety; I don't know whether particular kinds of depression would cause this.

I remembered too late that these posts are meant to be about treatments. My doctor did actually start looking at some treatments for parkinson's disease for me; not because he thought I had it; but because we both had this vague idea that I didn't have enough dopamine. I've never been able to get it out of my head that I'm not suffering from parkinson's (or latent or incipient parkinson's) so it's nice to hear from someone else who has had it from depression.

In a similar way, I've noticed that my handwriting is very neat and large when I'm doing well, and very sloppy and smaller (although not micro) when I'm not doing so well. I think it just has everything to do with mood. I wouldn't worry too much about having Parkinson's, unless it's highly prevailent in your family history. Even then, I wouldn't worry too much (I know, easy for me to say, huh?). Your doctor might be on to something with the dopamine. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I notice changes in my handwriting according to how well I'm feeling.
