What i could do

Posted by willyee on June 20, 2006, at 16:12:02

At my last doc visit, the one thing she spoke about since i was on parnate, that she did know was Nardil and Emsam.

If anyone can put a little insight into a few questions here id appreciate it.

Nardil.

1.If i choose to switch to this drug,am i destined to have sexual problems,im willing to deal with that as a side effect for a very long time, however im NOT willing to deal with it if it will be a permanent problem as long as i stay on the medication, unless i missed something which is possable,i beleive most people on nardil never really come around to be totaly funciontal sexualy on Nardil, any comments?

2. Putting aside strong personal opinions, and really stepping back and looking at the nardil group of veterans aganist the pzifer re formulation,am i really not getting the drug i would have had i been lucky enough to use it pre change?

Ill leave emsam out for now and just let this ride and see if i get any input,im doing better now with neurotion ramped up but im not happy about the entire protocol and want out of parnate if i can.

Willyee,

See below for my responses to your questions ...

For what it's worth, anorgasmia was always a problem for me on the "plain" Australian Nardil (i.e., not specially prepared in enteric capsules) once I got up to a dose of 60 mg/day (or higher). But when I switched from taking the Australian Nardil as it is commonly taken to taking it in enteric capsules, the anorgasmia (along with the urinary retention and extreme insomnia) went away.

So, it is possible that the sexual problems that a lot of Nardil users report could be alleviated by taking a formulation of Nardil with an enteric coating instead of one with a film coating. However, because there is no formulation of Nardil available anywhere in the world that has an enteric coating (at least none that I'm aware of), you have no way of knowing whether an "enteric" Nardil would allow *you* to be free of sexual problems unless you modify your Nardil to simulate the "old" Pfizer Nardil's enteric coating.

Well, I have a very strong opinion on this issue, and I'd rather not get into it on a forum as public as this one. But I think that you can tell based on my response to the previous question what my response to this one would be.
