Let me try to describe this anxiety ... it feels like an overwhelming amount of nervous energy which I feel about 24/7. Never had a panic attack, this is 24.7. It's like walking through a haunted house, knowing you are going to be scared but not know when. My mind just races and races and races. Because of all the nervous energy, all I think about it myself.
The only med out of 30+ that I tried over the past nine years that brings me some relief is Seroquel. It sort of just blunts everything.
Anyone felt something like this? Any advice on what meds to try? Thanks, Michael

Depakote first choice. Lithium second choice. Combine them third choice.
If it were anxiety, I would think the klonopin and seroquel would have put more of a damper on it than they have. It could easily be a form of mania. Some types of mania look a lot like what you describe and are hard to tell from anxiety except for their fierceness.
Since you recently started paxil, that is a factor too. In the long run it should help, but right now it is probably compounding the anxiety before it has a chance to work. But then again, if it is a form of mania, the paxil could be adding fuel to the fire.
Depakote is easy to try. All you need is one week at 500mg extended release per day or 1000mg per day. If it is going to help, you will feel something within that short of a time. I had a viscious anxiety/mania/akathisia thing last year (still not sure what it was) that was very much like what you describe, and depakote shut it down beginning the first day and it was almost completely shut down by day 4 and was indeed completely gone at a week.

The racing mind is what happens to me when I try to read my eyes move quickly over the page and I can't slow them down. I hate it as reading has always been a passion of mine. Just started lamictal with valium and luvox which I take at night. Michael I know how you feel it's horrible. And when I try to go to sleep my legs jump and quiver my husband has to put his hands on them. Anxiety is horrible. But as blueberry says it could be the paxil I had to take a very low dose l0mg with xanax and beer at night. Love Phillipa

I think you could think of it less as "anxiety" and more as a sort of mixed-depression--lots of anxiety, maybe some mild (hypo)manic features. So...to that end...try: 1)mood-stabilizers (I'd say trileptal, b/c you dont need bloodwork, but other work too; anticonvulsants in particular might be good)
2) benzos (they can cause dependence, but they're effective...and cheap...and docs know what to expect..)
3) atypicals (can be taken daily or as-needed...expensive, we're still learning about them but...some people love them)
4) some antidepressants (here I'm thinking of Surmontil and Asendin, maybe others that have a mood-stabilizing component; symbyax might also be an option)
