EMSAM- tounge edema, hyperkinesia

Posted by idolamine on May 29, 2006, at 12:59:00

4th day on EMSAM- good response in many ways, but tounge problems and hyperkinesia becoming intolerable. Agitation managable. Who has experiences a reduction in side-effects with this medicine, or are they constant in contrast to the tolerance of side-effects to SSRIs? 6mg

What exactly do you feel about your tongue?

it might not be the emsam-- there are some non-specific tongue/.mouth irritations that can occur, for reasons not well understood, and also that are usually self-limiting.

I had the problem concurrently with cymbalta, and it persisted long after I stopped cymbalta, although the severity is much less. Cymbalta definitely seemed to exacerbate it, although probably didn't cause it--or might have caused it to pass the threshold where I noticed it.

You could check with your doctor, to see if emsam could have any effect. I kind of doubt (as a layperson, of course--and based on my own experience, which is somewhat inconclusive, to be honest) that it's causing it per se.
