Now that Strattera has been around for several years, I am looking for updated opinions about the efficacy of this Rx.
I currently take prozac 10 mgs and adderall 10-15 mgs for major depression, GAD, and strong ADD symptoms. I really want to take a break from these meds for 3-4 months and I've been thinking about trying strattera.I am looking for any broad opinions but also wondering if anyone has switched to Strattera to replace an AD (especially SSRI) and stimulant at the same time. If so, how well did it cover both symptoms? If I do switch, I could stay on a small dose of Prozac but I am concerned about negative effects on liver function.
If I did switch to replace both the AD and stim at once, I wonder if Strattera would effectively cover/mitigate withdrawal symptoms of both?
Also, did you notice that is started working pretty quickly?
How does it compare to Wellbutrin?
Also wonder how Strattera would interact with omega 3's, b vitamins and the occasional social alcohol consumption.
Any input welcome
thanks,
-Mini

sorry, not a whole lot to add but wanted to say about two years ago i was on strattera for about 6 mo.
it did absoultely nothing for me, except helped me loose weight (which was Great!) but didn't help the add at all.
not sure about any interactions.just thought i'd chime in.
and just cuz they didn't work for me doens't mean it couldn't work great for you. i'd say give it a try.b2c.

Curious... What was your dose at the outset? Did you make adjustments during those 6 months?
Did you ever drink beer or wine in a casual situation while taking it? If so, what was the effect?
Thanks!

I've taken both Strattera and Wellbutrin. Seemed like the Wellbutrin was more agitating. The Straterra produced a similar stimulant effect, only it wasn't as agitating. For me, Strattera also produce sexual problems, whereas the Wellbutrin didn't. Over the long term, I felt Wellbutrin produced more insomnia.
I tried both for depression though, and not ADHD, so the results could be different for a person with ADHD.

can't remember what i started at but i went up to 60. unfortunately i had a terrible pdoc who absolutely wouuld not listen to me that it wasn't working, he wouldn't up it OR change it. he even had me try taking it at night (to help me sleep...) needless to say that didn't work.
no i just think it wasn't the right drug for me (or the right pdoc).
actually i can't remember about the drinking...if i did it wasn't a big deal as i don't remember any adverse effects.
