EMSAM and bladder problems, anyone?

Posted by tygereyes on May 5, 2006, at 9:36:17

Has anyone noticed an adverse effect on their bladder with this drug? (urinary frequency, urgency, enuresis, etc?)

Every SSRI/SSNRI, and most mood stabilizers and antipsychotics, worsen my bladder disorder (Interstitial Cystitis) and cause nocturnal enuresis, a side effect I refuse to deal with. Parnate essentially cured me of this. (Tricyclics help, too, but I have to take them with mood stabilizers & APs due to the irritability issue, so the dose was constantly requiring tweaking because I would start experiencing enuresis.)

I think I might have had it last night but I'm not sure - it always starts out with just a little bit before becoming unbearable. I know that I am probably the only one with such a sensitive bladder here but I was wondering if anyone else had noticed ANY effect on their bladder.

I hate this. This is a side effect that has plagued me since I was sixteen and caused me to blacklist a bunch of meds - Desmopressin doesn't work, the anticholinergics don't work, IC drugs don't work ... I simply can't take certain meds if I don't want to be experiencing enuresis. I've been to a million urologists and some have said they've seen this before but cannot explain it or offer me any hope in taking drugs that could be potentially beneficial.

I am very close to stopping everything and just living at baseline for a while. Sometimes I am so disillusioned with this entire thing.

Interstitial bladder is a real disease. Have you googled it? I knew a girl that had it and at the time the docs wouldn't believe her. Now they know it is real. The only psych meds that I know effect the bladder are antipsychotics. But I certainly don't know all. I know it is very painful. I'm sorry you have this to deal with too. Love Phillipa
