Anyone on Emsam and have severe fatigue?

Posted by Enigma on April 23, 2006, at 12:21:50

I could have sworn this started *before* I started Emsam, but now I'm not so sure...

Started Emsam on Wednesday, the 19th. I *think*, 2 days prior to this, I was getting severe fatigue without the accompanying (usual) depressed mood. Mood still isn't great, but not as bad as usual. Been fatigued like crazy since then.

I'm sleeping about 10 hours at night, and waking up completely exhausted. This isn't "too" abnormal for me, but it's much worse now. I don't have enough energy to do anything, and need naps during the day. I walk around like a sloth all day.

I was taking Klonopin for insomnia , and thought that might be causing the fatigue. I didn't take it last night, slept "fine", and I'm a zombie today. So maybe it's not the Klonopin.

I'm picking up my 3mg Lunesta pills today (I hope) and I'm gonna give that a shot to see if I can get better quality sleep. I'm unsure if I'm getting poor sleep quality or not.

Oh well. I do not want to stop the Emsam, but *if* this is causing this fatigue or making it worse, I will have to. I can barely function while being this tired.

Anyone on Emsam getting tired or fatigued from it?

I was on both Parnate and Nardil a few months back, and neither caused fatigue. Quite the opposite, that being insomnia and difficulty staying asleep.

Can't even drink this coffee either, it's giving me a bad headache. :(

I am having fatigue as well, not taking anything else besides emsam. I started it yesterday, and so far it has either made me more anxious, more depressed, or just incredibly tired for no reason. I had pretty bad insomnia before I started, and last night I didn't sleep well either, so this is probably contributing, but it's definitely the emsam doing most of it. I know someone else who said the first couple days he had bad fatigue and worsened depression, but now it seems to be getting better. But so far, I'd have to say it has been an unpleasant experience in the early going.

By the way, I have a feeling lunesta will only make fatigue worse, it's pretty long lasting.

I havent' tried ensam, but I can tell you that when I tried Wellbutrin it made me incredibly tired and fatigued for several weeks, after which time it became activating. Unfortunately, it then passed the pleasant stage and became so over activating/agitating I had to quit taking it all together.

I'd wait another couple of weeks to see if this passes. It could just be a start up side effect like what I experienced on WB. Good Luck.

Thanks for the side-effect info. Can't seem to find many (any?) fatigue side-effects listed on the Emsam documentation. I was starting to think I was the only one...

Another slug-fest today, that being the sloth-like kind. I took a Lunesta 3mg last night, and couldn't get up the next day.. but, I've been having this problem lately as well. Probably was worse this morning. I think I slept 11 hours, and still couldn't get up. I woke up a few hours prior and couldn't budge myself out of bed.

Finally woke up, pretty exhausted, but not as bad as the day before.. until later, where I crashed, from 5 to 8. Still pretty beat when I got up. The naps and sleep at night is NOT refreshing. I can barely do anything. Coffee is giving me headaches, so that's out too. Thank god I'm on disability. There's no way I can even stay awake at home, let alone work.

I'll try to keep up with the Emsam, but I gotta say, I feel like a lab rat. So many meds over the last couple of years, most wreaking havoc on me and usually, those around me. I'm the poster child for atypical, treatment resistant depression.

I gotta say that overall though, I feel "better", minus the fatigue of course. Been laughing, and joking around, like I used to. Still depressed in general, and getting worse, as I'm worrying that this drug might not work out for me, and it was kinda my last straw.

Anyway, I know many people's side-effects diminish over time, but mine rarely do.

I was taking Wellbutrin for a couple years, as it gave me energy, but probably a little mania too. It stopped working so I stopped taking it.. dosage increases didn't help.

Sorry about the topic changes.. trying to respond to all responses in one message I guess, and, rambling as usual...
