Provigil - questions

Posted by becksA on April 22, 2006, at 19:24:53

So we're going to be trying provigil for my ADHD (I'm extremely inattentive) half from adhd, half from klonipin., ....so im not sure that it will work. All I know is that it takes a couple weeks to start working. to those that use it, what kind of a feeling do you get from it, physically, and or mentally?

thanks

Hi,
I hope you find Provigil is helpful. I'm on 200 mg for mild ADHD. What I've noticed cognitively is that I am less impulsive verbally. I catch myself thinking before I speak, which is often a foreign concept for me. I've also had some very small benefits in concentration. I'm a little more productive now, probably because I feel I have the whatever it is to actually do a task when I think of it or start it versus feeling like I don't feel up to it.

Physically, I don't get so tired in the afternoons like I used to, unless I am experiencing a sugar crash. I definitely react if I have too much caffeine, though. I get an "overstimulated" or "wired" feeling. So if you take in a lot of caffeine, try to cut it back intially. You may not need as much as you used to.

Good luck,

gg

Some, if not all, insurance companies consider Provigil an investigational drug for the treatment of ADD/ADHD. I was denied coverage at the pharmacy for this reason.

It was a blessing in disguise, however, because the pdoc and I switched to a different stimulant that works without intolerable side effects - Dexedrine. I endured considerable trial-and-error to reach this point.

"I get knocked down, but I get up again..."

Hopefully, the new modafinal (Provigil) formulation recieves FDA approval to treat ADD/ADHD. It looks like it works for some people.

My pdoc was certain that my insurance wouldn't cover it for ADHD, but they didn't question it at all, which is good. I have pretty good insurance, though. (Dang, for as much as my husband pays for it, it better be good!)

Glad you found something that works for you. I just love those blessings in disguise, don't you? I can't take most stimulants since I also take an MAOI, so I'm glad Provigil is helping some for me.

The main effect I got from Provigil was that it made me very forgetful at work. It certainly seemed to cause mild cognitive impairment! It also made me feel a bit depressed.
