Xanax - dizziness and depression?

Posted by CK1 on March 24, 2006, at 19:18:51

Hey,
For the past two months, I've been doing quite well (actually VERY VERY well) on .25-.375 of Xanax every day. I'm finishing up my senior year in school (graduate in may) and was interviewing, doing jobs, meeting tons of people, going to parties, etc. I was getting extremely busy and had to pull off two "all-nighters" studying for tests this week and after these, I fell into a "mini" depression (started on tuesday). Could this be from ingesting too much caffeine, stress, etc? I'm wondering if I might by cyclothymic after all since I get in these modes where I accomplish so much and feel great and then when I get depressed, everything seems to be in vain.

What are your thoughts on this??? I've been really dizzy the past two days too - could this be the xanax?

Cam sounds like you're under a lot of stress right now. have you been eating right? Blood sugar could be down too. Explain the other symtoms of up and down. Love Phillipa

Hey Philippa,
I've been eating really badly the past two months and not working out because I've had so much going on. I think I need to get back on Depakote or another mood stabilizer again to even out my moods. Depakote made me tired but I could always try out a lower dose.
I feel so guilty about these last two months because I became really cocky and now I'm totally opposite. It's very strange how I can feel really good for a few months and then it all just goes away. Hmmmmm.....well, I'm gonna start working out again 3x a week and eating well and gonna see my doc again (haven't seen him in two months!) to see what's up. When the anxiety is gone, depression is there and vice versa!

How have you been philippa?

oh, one more thing. The past two months, everything seemed easy with no stress. Now, the same things seem much harder and more stressful and I'm sad. I might have had anxiety this year, but I haven't been sad so this is relatively new to me. Definitely sounds like some sort of bipolar aspect going on.....gonna meet with my doctor next week to discuss.

Some kind of bipolar cycling could be at play. It could be other chemical cycling too though, stress related, such as cortisol which ultimately affects thyroid and the brain. Maybe just keep coffee and sugar way down, eat healthy and often, lots of fluids, vitamins, proteins, etc.

On the other hand, maybe it's none of those things. Maybe it's just a longterm affect of the xanax slowly dampening things down over time. I love that antidepressant effect of xanax, but I'm not sure how long that continues before the brain receptors adjust and then things aren't the same.

I don't know about the dizziness, but I doubt such a low dose of xanax would do that, especially after all the time you've been taking it.
