Hi!
I was wondering how long people have had to wait for a pdoc referral after their GP referred them??
My GP told me he wrote a letter of referral to the mental health services, and well that was in November. So far, I have heard nothing. NOTHING.
Okay, I understand there is a certain hierarchy of needs, but this is a joke! I'm going back to my GP on Tuesday to see whats going on and to tell him I'm not doing too well either, but thats another story.
I wish mental health was more of a priority on the NHS. It seems that they spend more on treating verrucas than they do mental health.
Any advice??
Thanks.

Hiya!

The very first time I was refered from my GP to the mental health services it took about 2 months to get an appt if I recall. I think its very variable, I just saw an NHS psychiatrist and he wanted to follow up with me as quickly as he could however that meant an appt in June (!) and I had to wait 6 months for this one! Before that I could usually see the psychiatrist with about 3 weeks notice just by asking the CPN. Oh how times have changed.
Sorry they are taking so long, what did the GP say?
Best regards Bunny

If your psychiatrist then suggests you need to see a psychotherapist (not my favourite people but anyway...) - well, you're looking at another 3 month wait minimum.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Have a look at this BBC video clip - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/default.stm - bottom right. The NHS head of Mental Health gets weighed into! The clip confirms your fears - Mental Health services are being CUT as we speak.
I wish I had a more fashionable illness, one that receives (positive) media attention and attracts fundraising...
24 hours to save the NHS? Yeah, right.
Good luck.
J.
