:-( Lexapro questions + Neurontin is working!

Posted by Colleen D. on January 13, 2006, at 21:43:24

I've been on 10mg Lex since Dec. 6. I initially felt really, really good on it other than the initial startup anxiety I had for about two weeks, but the past week has been terrible for me. I have been crying over trivial things, irritable and short-tempered.

I just don't know if I should keep taking it. I've been on Zoloft, Effexor, Cymbalta, Wellbutrin and now Lex for recurrent MDD. Where do I go from here for a treatment for depression?

My anxiety is under control with Klonopin and doxepin, and GREAT NEWS - Neurontin is actually working quite nicely for my nerve pain.

I got a job offer yesterday, a job that found ME unbelievably, even though I've been looking since Oct. 04. This job could be perfect for me and I was elated for a whole day, even went out and celebrated (had a couple of adult beverages), and then I felt down and out and just plain miserable all day today. My eyes are swollen from all the crying. What is up with me?

I thought that once I was feeling better physically, I would feel great mentally, and it just isn't happening.

If it were me, I would not discredit the usefulness of the Lex.... yet. I have found one of the traps (there are many) of having a mood disorder is not keeping in mind that sometimes I get in a "funk". It's just "normal" for me. I sometimes need to look at factors that contribute to that - life stressors, (for me) perimenopausal issues....

If you have had a changeup of life or even added a new med, that could factor in as opposed to a lack of the Lex "working". I suggest talking with your doc - dosage adjustment might be needed. You have gotten through the initial startup and I found even when I upped the dose on Lex the adjustment was fast and not as intense as startup. The increased dose works well for me and seems to be what I need.

I'm not trying to say that maybe you aren't experiencing a lack of response, but maybe give it a little more time? That's a scary prospect for most of us as I know I have a tendency to respond at every "bump" awith a: "Oh, NOOOO..." and think it's a return of the awful times. I have had that not be the case. It was just a "bump in the road" that was temporary.

Thoughts to you......
