hi,
i'm attempting to go to my therapist today without self medicating first but feel i might need some help getting out of the office. i have regular xanax, not the sublingual tablets. can i use them sublingually in an emergency?

Yeah, I've done that before. Just put the pill under your tonque and let it dissolve for a few minutes and then wash the mush down. I've even just chewed them up first and let it sit in my mouth for a few minutes. I mean, it doesn't taste great, but it's not bad. It begins working faster than swallowing a whole pill. I wouldn't do it on a regular basis though, maybe it would cause mouth sores or something.

I understand what you mean about needing help to get out of the office. For which reason I have always put benzos under my tongue after chewing enough to break the tablet up a bit.
(Except for Oxazepam which had a lot of tartrazine or something similar in it, leading to yellow teeth, tongue and lips.)
But Xanax was no problem under the tongue.

Yes I was told once by a pdoc to put it under my tongue. Sublingually it is absorbed faster. Fondly, Phillipa

I had no idea you could do that.
I might have to remember that during my next panic attack.
It's better than swallowing the pill and waiting for 20 minutes before you are convinced you aren't really dying.

no kidding! thank you. it really did help. my therapist was amused that i planned ahead and assured me that he wouldn't kick me out of his office mid panic attack. it really helped to take the edge off quickly. learned something new. thank you!!!
