Is there another benzo that is stronger than valiu

Posted by Phillipa on December 15, 2005, at 12:28:39

The Board is empty but a friend asked me to ask this question. Is there a benzo stronger than valium. She wants to avoid AD's. Would rather feel emotions. And that part I also relate to. They do dull you and make you not feel. And I've never found one that works on anxiety. And from what you all say benzos are depressants too. Thanks Fondly, Phillipa

I think benzos can be “user determined” and vary from person to person. What med and dose knocks one person out does not seem to touch or have any result in another.

Just as an aside as I have a bit of a comparison history, I think I was more blunted emotionally with using a benzo as single therapy than I have ever experienced on an AD. I was single therapy Klonopin for three years and AD therapy for the last nine months. Everyone is different, but I know my drive and motivation are better now as compared to before. Actually, everything is better and I’m grateful for that.

While I don’t think routine use of K only was the only reason for a depression that set in for me, I do think it was a contributing factor. AND, I think due to my intense advocacy for the use of JUST a benzo for myself, I failed to act on a status change because I thought if I could control the anxiety all would be fine. This was really not the case for me and I kept my false belief for probably a little too long.

I think there is room for the argument that anxiety symptoms can be almost undeterminable from being part of a depressive disorder. I was told that years ago and I was angered by it, BUT live and learn and my thoughts on that changed.

I think if one chooses to use just a benzo for treatment that’s fine but one should be aware and willing to entertain the idea that a comorbid process could be going on.

Glydin, Bingo! I have felt the same as you for years. And I was always told the same thing that a depression was triggering the anxiety. I need to get the courage to stay on an AD for a longer period. E-mail me when you get a chance okay? Fondly, Phillipa

Fires, thanks so much! So do you really believe that effexor xr is that good? Fondly, Phillipa

It pulled me out of Dep., which knocked out my anxiety, but triggered BP -hypomania. I'm still trying to figure out why the BP didn't go away after I stopped the Effexor.

I'd recommend Effexor -- since any AD can trigger BP -- and, I'm NOT fond of SSRIs.

Fires me neither and I'm afraid of them. It seems like I'm really more tired and depressed than anxious now. Back to the drawing board I guess. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Ya Phillipa!

Have you tried Xanax?-one of the greatest acute psychic pain relievers i ever took (aside from Morphine), it has AD qualities too, althought is short acting, but i understand theres an ER version there in the US. Many take a background benzo, such as our trusted Diazepam, and a stronger agent, like Ativan or Xanax, for acute ravageing anxiety episodes. Xanax can knock dead intense psychic pain in it's tracks, and i wish my PcDoc had given me some last time i saw him, as Alcohol is the other option :(

Cheers
