Elite Inc fudges about Oxy-Nal

Posted by pseudoname on November 22, 2005, at 13:13:16

Okay, maybe this is not the right forum for this, and one could reasonably ask what the heck do I care anyway, but...

Elite Pharmaceuticals Inc put out a press release last week about Oxy-Nal™ – their new abuse-resistant oxycodone product, currently in testing. Oxy-Nal has naltrexone in the capsule so that supposedly if anyone tries to get the oxy out of the capsule to inject, snort or sell it, the buzz-killer naltrexone will be released. (Yeah, right.)

Anyway the press release says,
"Currently no opioid abuse resistant product is on the market."

Um, hello? Suboxone uses the same principle but with buprenorphine & naloxone. Doesn't Elite read the news?

Not to mention Talwin NX (pentazocine + naloxone). Even though its potential for abuse is (seemingly) only limited by attempts to mainline the drug (and because it's not a very recreational opioid to most), I'd say it still fits into the category that Elite decided to conveniently not mention.
