that's strange... are you sure he's taking trileptal (oxcarbemazepine) and not lamictal (lamotrigine)? lamictal is the one that is known for the rash, i hope his doctor knows this. (?)

in any case trileptal and lamictal can often be pretty innocuous medications from what i heard, but they may still affect blunt his focus and cognitive processes and potentially disrupting his learning (this will definately be a thing to watch for during dosage increases). at least that's what i think. there are a lot of very knowlegeable people here, so check back often over the next few days/week. surely someone will know good things to be discussing with your doctor about these meds... the tricky part is that most people on this board are adults, so finding extra information regarding possible issues for children taking the meds may take extra digging. there may not be anything exta to know though... so i don't mean to trigger any false alarms.

good luck!! :)

hey! trileptal can be very helfpul. I can also make people stupid. The important thing is to adjust the dosage carefully, and then watch for any signs of bad side effects (slowed speech, trouble concentrating/learning, etc.). If you adjust medication carefully, your child can get the benefits of trileptal w/ minimal ill effects. Good luck!

I didn't know they were using this in children. What is his diagnosis. Fondly, Phillipa
