Do I need therapy

Posted by ICanFlyButterfly on September 21, 2005, at 22:23:25

i've been on effexor now for close to 6 weeks at 115 mg dose. also on loxiprine 20 mgs. i meet with my doc every week and we usually "chat" for about an hour. he feels that i should seriously consider going into the hospital as i have not improved. i'm really scared of this option and kind of feel stressed and pressured that i should have "been better by now". has anyone any experience with what a hospital stay would entail?

thanks for your understanding.

Have you tried other meds? Unless you're going to hurt yourself or just can't take the stress of not being hospitalized, it seems like you all should try many more meds before you go check in somewhere. Cause sometimes that isn't perfect either. Maybe he just deosn't know what to do... have you seen more than one Dr? There are way too many meds and classes of meds out there to give up after just one or two.

And no, therapy is not a bad thing. But just like meds, you gotta keep searching until you find the one you click with, but it's worth looking for. Good luck, Suzie

What are they planing to do to you in the hospital, did your doctor tell you. Maybe ECT's? Those are not fun. Its a quick fix though. They shock your head with high voltage. Blanks out your memory. Other than that there is not much they can do. They feed you, bed you. You spend the rest of the day watching tv and playing board games. They have a smoking room of course, you have to bring cigs though. You may even get visitors. The one thing you don't get to do is go out side at all. And you are locked in the ward. It can be very expensive also.

So if you are not going to kill yourself or other people or do some realy stupid things. Don't go. Some times doctors don't know how to take what you are saying and will want you in the hospital. Even when it is not necisary.
