I don't know much about the eyes, but often people feel a little sedated for the 1st few days.
I also had to interject that my best advice is to buy a pill splitter (available at any pharmacy $2-5). They are SO much easier to use than an knife. And, honestly, I think that the idea of biting it is a little...um...wacky. Many meds take so nasty when broken, so you don't want that extra powder in your mouth. I don't think it would be dangerous, just icky.
Now that you have taken one, I would keep taking it for a set length of time (you decide, but I would say no shorter than 2 weeks). You may or may not see results right away, so don't get too discouraged.
Good luck w/ the new med. Maybe the birth control will help some too. I know a few people who find that it can help stabilize their moods (or make them worse, but let's not think abt that...)
Best,
EE

If you are like me, there will be a transition time as you adjust to taking Lex. You may find you have some strange reactions which will hopefully clear in a few weeks. That's a difficult concept to deal with when you are going through it, as when we are struggling and apprehensive about a new med, it's easy to become quickly intolerant of the startup side effects and negative that the new addition will work - at least that's the way it is for me. You may find it ends up being well worth it. I suggest you try to give it some time and patience... this is not easy, I know.

when your body is really worked up with anxiety, it can cause the nervous system to do many bizarre things -- numbness in toes and fingers, muscle flinches, night sweats, a dialated eyes. if it continues for more than a few days, call your doc office and talk to nurse.

That's the first time I've heard about the dilated eyes. Very interesting. Fondly, Phillipa

when I first started taking it. It lasted about 8 weeks. Now my pupils are normal. I'm going on 1.5 years on Effexor.
