What's a safe adjunct with imipramine?
I read Dr. Bob's psychopharmacology tips
under Dr. Wilson's description of the
Dalanin adjunct being a dangerous combination.
Perhaps that applies to all anti-psychotics
combined with tricyclics. I think The Virtual
Hospital mentions that.Assuming that imipramine is not well tolerated
*at high dose* and therefore does not treat
depression entirely but there is no alternative, what other safe anti-depressant adjunct could be recommended?Or, could someone suggest a good site to look
for this question.Thank you.

Do you have psychotic symptoms or "just" depressive ones?
I take desipramine (a TCA, which I beleive is closely related to imipramine) as part of my meds coctail. I have depression that just won't go away, but no psychotic symptoms. I take Lexapro and Lithium as antidepressant ajuncts. I just started on the Li though so I don't know how it will turn out. I know that the TCA and Li combo have been well-researched b/c both have been around for a while. Lamictal also works for some people, but it didn't for me. I actually added the Desipramine to the Lex b/c the lex wasn't helpful enough for me. Have you ever been on a TCA-SSRI combo?

depression is under control as well as the
irratibility/anxiety that tends to comes with
tri's; But 200mg is hard on the body - it has
been taken for a long time and an operation has
made it more difficult to tolerate.Lithium has been tried but possibly it was
started too fast too soon, and too high and
had to be dropped. What would be nice is an adjunct (smaller dose)
to the main large 175mg dose of imipramine - something to cover the depression without the
really rough side effects.Desipramine and Lexapro sound promising;
yes, just about all the SSRIs have been tried.Thank Emily. Good luck with your combo -
all we need is take-out now :-)Squiggles
