Why babble can be addicting..

Posted by willyee on July 29, 2005, at 11:15:31

We see many posters,inlcuding myself find they are becomming addicted,obssesed or whatever have you with posting here.

TWo reasons i believe are major factors are for one you have people here who have a understanding of something u deal with 24/7.Most people in their home life have family and friends who are compassionate in their attempts and *claim* and *want* to understand.

Difference is u can discuss with them u feel ur lacking gaba,or need dopamine etc....aside from a profession,most people aware of the chemical going on in the brain are us,not because its a fun hobbie but we took a deep interest in learning about something that is killing us slowly.Although most im sure appreciate the thought,we get tired of hearing "come out with me,and forget about the depression get ur mind off things".

Getting our mind to relax is our GOAL,not a option.And usualy someone in the midst of this will know that.We like to speak to people who relaise the chemical relation between the sickness,and can discuss medication more thant simply the name of it.

Put a ton of those people togther,and u have ur addiction of a safe haven.

Second and i again personally attest to this,im sure many of us visit here,scan the page in hopes of seeing some thread titled SUCCESS,OR NEW MED WORKS! yess sounds as good as it looks.Its very sad we never come across that,and i do believe one needs to take a serious look at what they want from this resource,if just that a resource,than one needs to be careful they do not fall into the pit of becomming obsessed,and should limit their posting to asking or needing an answer to a question,because it is possable to get worse from reading others miseary,lets remeber this is the ground of suffering and we need to remember its all in one place and not to let that sink into our minds that we are comptly doomed.

Then u have people who enjoy the company,and being a part of the group,and dont find it harms or haults their progress,and thats great.

For me i do believe personaly i need to spend my time here resourfully either providing info or getting it,i like u guys but dont wanna make anything to do with depression a permanent activity in my life,i want to move away from that as much as possable.

Lastly concenring a cure all medication,does anyone know the status of the maoi patch,or a direction i can go to learn myself.Does anyone believe this can end up helping a lot of people?I have read some pretty postive things on it.

Well thanks for the chance to well babble,theres a lot of comments and questions,feel free to address any one of them anyone....or not,i just felt the need to babble a bit.

~~~I'll be honest, I do think there are number of posts about success. I do think there are times these posts are not well received. I find that difficult to understand, but I have seen it happen. I think some folks who are having chemically enhanced success aren't posting. There are times boards like this seem to me to have a number of folks who are of an antimed faction. If one is having success and they attribute it to good meds, it's not comforting to come to share the good news only to feel you must defend it in some way. That can effect one almost as much as the trials of trying to find a success treatment because it is bewildering coming from a community you thought would be empathatic. Maybe no one but me has experienced this, BUT I know I have.
~~~True. There can develop a group dependence that may not be therapeudic. I understand it, but I know I've had to be very careful and I've experienced times it was good for me to take a break.

I come to Babble to try and learn more about meds and what makes them work or not work. I don't feel pdocs or docs in general know anything other than what the drug reps tell them or what the PDR says. Many times when I was working a pdoc would ask me a nurse what drug I thought might work, and the worst of it was they even asked me what I thought their dx was. And if they make an error in ordering correct amt of medication it's nurse's fault. We're responsible of knowing what the safe Rx'd doses are. But I also come here to try and offer help and support. If I don't know an answer and that is often I refer to a med expert. I go to Social if I want a mood boost. And I go to Admin if I want to know what is of concern to other posters. I make it a point to go out and go to the gym and interact with other people. But I know at times that Babble is all I want or feel capable of doing. Fondly, Phillipa
