Posted by rjlockhart98 on July 27, 2005, at 21:01:52

This is blunt post.

I cant post alot anymore. But there so many articles against benzo's, MAOI' (understandable), etc.

Why do medications get bad reputations.

Matt, it seems that they don't work, build up a tolerance, or have horrible side effects or withdrawal effects. Fondly, Phillipa

I don't think it's that.

You are describing the rational limittions of medications but I think
that the discomfort that so many seem to feel about medications
has deeper roots. I remember the panic and hysteria as a child
when the local parents spread a rumour that some unnamed group
was attempting to get ten year olds hooked on LSD by giving away
colored stickers at school. Now it turned out that this was simply an
urban legend with no factual basis but parents seemed to really want to spread this.

In a similar way ritalin, the drug of choice for inattentive ADHD
has one of the worst reputations of all medications yet it is
both better tested than 99% of medications and far safer.
Yet the panic continues despite the facts, not because of them. I think
that medication remind speople of medicine men using witchcraft
to remove curses from people and that it is a very
primitive fear that drives much of the propaganda.

You have incessantly complained about adderall.

I think it's difficult to name much of anything that doesn't have a bad reputation and detractors .... somewhere with some folks.

yeah I agree -- I withdrew from effexor with no real side effects. The same could be said about anything - plus sides, bad sides - I mean look at alcohol and the side effects (hangovers, doing stuff you wish you hadn't) which are accepted part of society! I mean suppose for a minute alcohol was a new drug someone discovered, and it would probably be banned because of the side effects!!!

Because a lot have endless trouble with them (nm) » rjlockhart98
