How many DAYS does take for Lamictal to kick in?

Posted by DoYouKnowHim? on June 14, 2005, at 8:33:52

I am already taking Seroquel (100mg/day) for anxiety. But you have to start off on Lamictal slowly, because of the possibility of a rash. I have been taking 25 mg/day for the last 10 days and was wondering after how many days when you finally felt it? I go up to 50mg in another few days. Do you feel something then or does it take longer?

Who has been on both? And which one kicks in faster? I know on the SSRIs you can go up faster? So I guess it takes more time for Lamictal because you have to go so slow. How does Lamictal make you feel, by the way?

You are right that it prob takes longer for lamictal because of the time it takes to get to the right doseage. I take it and it seems to augment my ssri and even out my moods.

At 25 mg, you may not ever feel it kick in. That's a very low dose. I just went from 25 to 50 a couple of days ago. I'm not sure yet if it's making a difference. I need to give 50 another week and then try 75 if necessary. Then it's back to pdoc.

I've not had rash so far. I did 10 days at 25 mostly because I forgot to up it after a week.

Good luck to you.

For me lamictal kicked in real fast even at the lower doses. I would get really happy probabily too happy but irritable at the same time, and would have insomnia so maybe I was hypomanic, but I don't think so. I would get like this for a only about 5 days after each increase, and then I would be depressed again. But after reaching 200mg and not before, I would maintain a reasonable antidepressant effect, just enough but nothing major. Most people may not feel it AT ALL beofre 200mg and then its like a light has been switched on. But everyone is different some people feel it at 25mg some need 200mg+, the therapeutic dose for lamictal is very variable from person to person.

I am still on lamictal (275mg) and I have good days, and blah days, but its not very often that I down days, and if I do they are not like they were in the past, much more managable.
