I've been scouring electronic journals and medline over the past couple of weeks in attempt to glean whatever information I can from the little that is known about the interaction between these neurotransmitter systems. The activities are so localized that it seems impossible to predict even theoretically the interactions of our shotgun-like antidepressant drugs on the seemingly opposing systems. The question of whether serotonergic acting drugs can work in harmony with dopaminergic drugs, or whether their effects are more likely to oppose one other, seems pertinent.
Although I have many thoughts on this matter (the correctness of which probably correspond roughly to the probability of random guessing), I'm interested to know what thoughts others of you have on this matter.

See what Michael Bell wrote on March 4, 2003, and another one on April 12 2004, but both were more about GABA and dopamine.

However, I've never seen this downregulation quantified in a way such that it could be deduced to a "human readable" percentage.
