Anxiety and the grinding in my stomach

Posted by Maxime on May 30, 2005, at 11:56:12

Hi

I have been fortunate enough to have never suffered from anxiety. The exception would be around food, but it's different kind of anxiety.

However, for the past few month I have been anxious. I know it's because of "life" and my situation. I am constantly worried about money and finding a job. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I just put my head down and cry.

But I am so nauseous all the time. My stomach is so upset. Sometimes I drink Gingerale and it helps. I can't drink anything with aspertame in it so I have to use the regular kind. I don't want all this sugar.

I don't want to take any pills for the anxiety but I would like the knots and nausea to go away in my stomach. Is there anything I can drink that would help? I used to have a stomach ulcer and I hope I not heading in that direction again.

Any suggestions?

Maxime

Maxime,

I often have anxiety and a so-so stomach. The ginger ale is good. Don't think about the sugar. Add some soda crackers. That can really help. And try not to let your stomach get TOO empty.

I know you have issues with food, but think of this as anti-anxiety medicine.

Hugs,

You will get a job. How could you not? Fondly, Phillipa

Thanks MB. But then I will get anxious over the sugar and the crackers. It's such a catch-22 situation.

Hi Maxime,
Sorry things are still not great for you.
Stomach churning and butterflies and upset digestive sytem is always the first anxiety symptom I get, before others kick in. I take Klonopin for this and it works great. But if you want a non-med stomach calmer with no calories or food anxiety, try chamomile tea (no milk, no sugar, just plain tea). It's very soothing. Even the smell is soothing to me!!! Also mint tea might help.
Just a thought.
Best regards,
Jas
