I have been taking Lunesta 3mg for the past two weeks and have noticed that a low-grade depression has developed. Has anyone else experienced a mild depression while taking Lunesta?
I did not experience this when I was taking 10 mg of ambien. The problem is, I like the fact that I can fall asleep easily and stay asleep for 8 hours on the Lunesta, which I didn't always get from the ambien. I am afraid to lower the Lunesta dose for fear of not sleeping. I also take 1.5 mg of ativan at night with the lunesta ( I also took ativan when I was on Ambien).
Any insight, advice, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nicole

Hi,
Depression has been reported as a side effect of zopiclone (Zimovane)- Lunesta's close relative.

I became depressed while on ATivan as a sleep aid. Perhaps the combination of the two is the problem?Marsha

I thought lunesta was supposed to help with depression? I still have my vouchers for the free tabs of 3mg lunesta and I'm keeping them till more people report their side effects. It was looking very positive for a while, but now I don't know. Fondly, Phillipa

I have also heard reports that Lunesta is supposed to help with depression so I am baffled. I would love to hear from anyone where this is the case. Maybe it is a combo of the ativan and the lunesta. I am just afraid to decrease either of the two for fear of not sleeping. I don't know which is worse....sleep deprivation or mild depression.
Thanks for all of your replies, I appreciate it.

I have taken Lunesta since it first came out, but I am not aware of an effect on my mood. I also take 5 mg Lexapro along with the Lunesta before going to bed.
