Provigil and Strattera

Posted by Marc R Miller on May 22, 2005, at 8:53:28

I've suffered from a history of major depression. The last time I saw my psychopharmacologist I spoke to him of my disorganization at my office and at my home. He spoke to me of Provigil and Strattera.

One of my symptoms has always been a fatigue. I've read that Strattera causes tiredness is some people. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

Thank you.

It was true for me. It is actually quite common, although I can't estimate for you the degree to which it is a passing side effect that dissipates with time. I wasn't on it long enough.

Good luck.

My pdoc told me that many doctors increase the dose too quickly which results in this and other side effects. He took about four months to get to 50mg and I noticed some tiredness and so switched to evening dose. I now take one at 8.00pm and the other at 1.00pm. I take a stimulant with the afternoon dose. If you don't have ADHD then provigil could address the tiredness side effect (if you get it) without the whole-body stimulant effect.

Wellbutrin is also an atypical antidepressant that has a mild stimulant effect and may be worth looking at. Good luck.

Hi. It was true for me, but I only stayed on it for 10 days. It probably was at too high a dose to start - 25 mg. I was suppose to start at 40 mg! I wouldn't suggest it. Listen to Alohashirt.

I tried Strattera, and it helped with my concentration, but made me incredibly tired. I had to quit taking it after one month. I felt like I was being drugged, and speaking in slow motion. I was noticably calm, and liked that, but I just couldn't take being tired through-out the day. I know that the side effects are suppose to wear off after a week or so, but some people continue to have them. -L

Strattera induced depression in my daughter who has dysthymia and social anxiety. We started low and slow and the depression and fatigue got worse as the dose increased. The reverse was true and her mood and energy increased as we weaned her off.

Provigil definitely increases alertness and energy. Found that 150mg in the AM and 50mg at lunch works best for her.
