I was talking with my pharmacist today. He had looked lunesta up in his computer for me and one thing led to another. He said that now there is what's called a Pharmacist PA. He is able to Rx medications just like a PA does. He just needs to check in with a pdoc. I'm not sure if he meant all meds and docs but I think he might have. He said a pharmacist goes to school to learn about meds and a doctor goes to school to learn anatomy and psysiology. If that is true do you think pdocs will be phased out? Now all they do is Rx meds, and then send you to a therapist to talk and help with "issues". How interesting. Anyone know for sure? Fondly, Phillipa

Wow! I haven't heard of that yet. I know from experience though that all the pdocs I've seen have pretty much just been worthless. They just go with the current "hot" drug to prescribe and when that doesn't work reluctantly try another.
I've had good luck with therapists though and wish they had the ability to prescribe meds because they sometimes seem to know what would work more than the pdocs. My current therapist has made recommendations for meds to my pdoc, but the doc is not considering them. Must be an ego thing. Quite frankly, with my experience, it wouldn't bother me to see pdocs phased out.

Maybe moving towards distinct specialties would be even better. Although it might nip competition in the long run, but then again it all has its mysterious ways of working out. I would like to phase out my primary care physician and replace him with a secretary to do deal with the bureaucraties.
Retail may be moving into that direction as well, away again from present supermarkets and drugstores which now sell anything from scented candles to summer sandals (but you can't find a walking cane or catherter supplies), to hyperspecialty warehouses.
