I feel stoned and spacey as if I had smoked marijuana or taken mild mescaline. Taking Paxil was like being on LSD everyday. Zoloft was not as intense but still made me feel more stoned than I already am. Wellbutrin seems to be better because it is not affecting serotonin, but by itself something is lacking. Hallucinogenic drugs supposedly stimulate the 5HT2a receptor so I thought maybe a 5HT2a antagonist would help. I tried Mirtazapine but it did not really do what I expected and I did not like the blockade of histamine. Nefazodone is supposed to be a potent antagonist of 5HT2a but it is also dangerous to the liver. Any ideas or thoughts on this. I probably should retry Mirtazapine at a higher dose and forget about the histamine problem.

What about one that hits norepiphrine as well?
I know I also can't have anything that touches seratonin. I feel like I'm on acid. I even hallucinated on Lexapro.
That stuff is not for me..

I too was thinking about for instance nortryptiline, which is primarily a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, and also has some 5HT2a antagonism.Others would be some of the newer atypical antipsychotics, risperidone, geodon, or abilify.

Can you tell me what your diagnosis is and what meds you have used. I find few people with this stoned feeling being increased by psychotropic meds. Very interesting that you hallucinated on Lexapro. Paxil was like taking LSD for me. Wellbutrin does work on norepinephrine and so does Mirtazapine although Mirtazapine does include serotonin but in a different way than an SSRI med. Mostly I am looking for something to block 5HT2a but not blow out my liver.

I had a panic attack in December after a traumatic event. It caused my blood pressure to be high (but I was totally freaked out!). So my doctor encouraged me to go on meds.
First I was on put on Wellbutrin- it wigged me out with horrible anxiety. I could not sleep or eat. I went 4 days without sleep. It was horrible.
After it got out of my system, my dr. put me on Lexapro. About 3 weeks into the Lexapro, I started to have really weird things happen; cycling from euphoria to anxiety to horrible depression. I experienced depersonalization/derealization (the acid trip feeling like you aren't really there or you are in a tunnel!). I also had two hallucinations (visual ones) and one auditory one.
It was awful. I stayed it on for 6 weeks and then my husband realized what a horrible reaction I was having. I went off of it (basically cold turkey) and had just as hard of a time.
The three weeks after quitting it, were almost worse than being on it. I felt horrible; had head zaps, felt dizzy, felt REALLY weird in my head. It was just bizarre- too hard to describe.
I ended up in the psych ward because I became suicidal. Totally out of my character.
I have been battling ever since!!
I've tried Lamictal (increased anxiety), Depakote (gave me horrible heartburn), Seroquel (too sedating), and now am just back to Klonopin (hardly any) and Restoril for sleep.
I want to eventually wean off all this stuff. It hasn't been helpful to me.
This is the end of the thread.
