I saw my pdoc on Thurs.. She gave me 25 mg of Seroquel to add to my 150mg of Wellbutrin and 1 mg clonazepam. Thurs. night : fell asleep OK, but woke up to sedate.
Last night I took my meds and went to bed shortly thereafter. I almost fell asleep, but was jerked awake. This happened 3 more times, with me becoming more wide awake after each jerk episode.
My pdoc said she thinks I have anxiety with Dep., rather than BP II.
I've experienced the jerk awake phenomena before, but never so often in one night; and I've never become wide awake after them. I didn't fall asleep until after 1:00 AM.
I don't know what the heck is going on, but I've never experienced anything like this before and I first got sick in 1976. Intuitively I feel like my body can't take whatever this is very long, i.e., I'm in big trouble, especially since my 2 local docs always say "anxiety", yet they can't give me objective proof of it.
Any suggestions? ideas? thoughts?
Please excuse my writing, it's 7:15 AM and I feel like I didn't sleep at all last night.

you think maybe seroquel might be causing this?

Could you be having "night panic attacks?" I seem to get that a lot. I'll wake up (in a jerky kind of way) feeling totally horrified and scared like something is totally wrong or that I'm going to die and not knowing why. It happens to me more frequently from 11:00pm-4:00am hours, then other times if I'm sleeping. I think my night cortisol is really high (which I validated with a saliva test, but don't know how reliable that is). Anyway, don't know if that's what you're experiencing, but sounds similar to what I experience at night.
Good luck,
Chris

I had what you're describing once or twice years ago. What I'm having now is quite different. No panicky feelings, I just became more "awake" after each jerk. I've had the jerks before, but in the past I always fell asleep after one, maybe two at most.
Thanks

I don't think so since the dose is so low and because it was sedating on the first night.
Having said that I'm stopping it until things clear up a little. I just got back from the ER for the 2nd time in 7 days with the same thing : arrhythmias/palpitations. Once again all that was abnormal was a slightly low potassium level.

I had those "wake me up, freak me out jerks" a few times while on Lexapro. A few times it even woke my husband up.
It was as if my body had a seizure/spasm or something and would totally jolt me out of my sleep.
I've also woken up in the night in a full blown panic attack-- another scarey experience. As a matter of fact, almost every time I've ever had a panic attack seems to have been in the middle of the night.
I wonder what that explanation could be since I'm sleeping??
Life is interesting.

That's like when I had a Holter heart monitor and it showed that I had "tachycardia for most of the 24 hr. period". I guess we are anxious even when asleep - though anxiety was not the cause of my tachycardia. ;)
