I'm corrently on 225mg of Effexor XR and over the past 3 to 4 weeks I've started clinching my teeth to the point of headaches, jaw & teeth pain and shape shooting pains in my eyes.I talk with my doctor and he wants to switch me over to 20mg Lexapro, will this reduces or eliminate the s/es.

hi
i'd been taking 225 effexor for 5 months. i noticed that upon waking up my jaw was totally clenched shut and same goes today (although i've been dropped to 150) but then i'm fine throughout the day. i did experience headache as well and the clenched jaw thing is a noted side effect. dunno...if it's that unbearable then i guess u hafta switch. i thought effexor was helping me but now i've so many other things in the mix its so hard to tell what is and what's not working.
i've never been on lexapro tho so i can't really help you there unfortunately...

i started clenching my jaw on an a/d several years ago and now no matter how many different ones i try i still have the jaw clenching. it's like once the 'jaw clenching' floodgates opened for me, they won't close again. i can't even remember which a/d it was that started it.

I had this experience with Cymbalta; jaw-clenching is something I do in general, but it got much worse with Cymbalta. I did not have this with Lexapro.

I had that (along with tongue swelling) after having an injection of dypixol (excuse my spelling).

I had an injection of cogentin and that fixed that up.

I wonder if what you are talking about is different though...

But it went away pretty quick.

I knew someone who got severe shakes on some variety of antipsychotic and he took cogentin tablets once per day to prevent that happening.

But maybe that is different.

Every SSRI I took caused the same problem.
I hope it will be different for you. If not, you may have to add something to your AD.

Thanks,I really don't know when it started or the a/d that started the clinching
but i'm not too suprised by your reply
i'll just have to play round with different a/d & doses (maybe i'll get lucky)
