Hi group...I have purposely stayed off most of the websites after starting Lexapro..information overload....plus I wonder how many side effects etc we assume are happening after reading so many postings....anyway...I started on Lexapro about 2 months ago 10 mg, still on remeron at 30 mg at night..and klonopin ...Depression, GA, SA.I have been through the lineup of other meds..and Lexapro will be the last SSRI most likely....my question is how many milligrams is everyone else out there taking and finding success with...I am functional most days....but still have a lot of ups and downs.....I was hoping by this time to be pretty much depression free and have the anxiety under control....I would say I am about 60% there.
Any comments on amounts?? My new Psy. says that clinical tests show no real benefit for most patients to take more than 10 mg.??? Thanks! Ed

I heard the same thing about doses over 10 not making a difference. That said, I take 40mg along w/ a bunch of other stuff. I have found it to be somewhat helpful, but not a "magic bullet" for me. My pdoc also says that most drugs need to be at a higher dose to help for folks w/ a lot of anxiety.
Best,

I too am taking 40mg, have been on Lex 2 years w/good results, mostly. Still have *periods* of anxiety and grouchies. My first doc would not give me more than 10mg quoting the same studies. I found me another pdoc who was willling to work w/me and has told me I can go higher than 40 if I need to. Do not currently take any other meds. Additionally, I would say it was well into 6 months before I really felt *improved*, and have also felt better after each increase. Was on 30 for almost a year, have been on 40 about 4 months. Hope this helps!~~~8|8

My daughter took Lexapro last summer for depression and anxiety. She has a binge eating disorder as well...You probably know the story because I have posted quite a few times. Anyway, she started on 10mg, and went up to 40mg. The pdoc told us that for OCD and binge eating type disorders, a higher dosage works best, and so up she went. I must say, she felt great! No depression, but she was bipolar and we didn't know it at the time, so she needed other medications and to make a long story short was taken off because of weight gain etc. It does cause weight gain in SOME (not all) people at higher doses. For her, the higher dose did make a difference. A noticable one. Good luck. -L
