Brain shivers - what is this?

Posted by KaraS on January 28, 2005, at 10:43:48

I just had my second attack of this. It only happens when I just get into bed at night. It feels like epilepsy. I think the rest of my body is shivering too but that could just be from fear.

A couple of months or so ago I went off of Effexor. Otherwise the only medication I've taken is a small amount of maprotiline for a couple of days and large amounts of niacinamide. The only other thing I can think of is that I take some vitamins at night including calcium and magnesium.

Anyone else have this? What do you think it is? What medications are you on or have you been on? This is scaring me to death.

the brain shivers effect is very common with Effexor withdrawal

I've been off of Effexor for a couple of months now and didn't have the problem earlier. I briefly tried a little bit of maprotiline while I had this experience. I have a feeling that had something to do with it. Maybe the combination of that along with withdrawal.

I always thought that when people described brain shivers, they meant the same as the brain zaps. Guess they're different though.

Anyway, thanks for your reply.
