I don't think Prozac 20mg equals ANY dose of zoloft, they are completely different meds, they are not comparable.
Anyway, if you take 20mg(low dose) of prozac for depression and want to switch to zoloft, start with 50mg(low dose)./Mattias

I understand they are different medications, this is true. It is weird, but I have found that if I go over 1/3 the lowest recommended dose for any antidepressant, they work .....
nardil 60mg (1/3 between 45 and 90)
imipramine 200mgs (1/3 between 150 and 300)
zoloft 100mgs (1/3 between 50 and 200)so, there is a funny pattern with me. I think some psychopharm docs have made equivalent statement doses between ssri's.

I read in some book somewhere that the starting dose of Zoloft was unwisely set too low. Most people don't get much of an antidepressant effect with 50 mg of Zoloft. (I tried that dose for a month & it really didn't do much of anything except make me sleepy).
Prozac on the other hand is effect for many (most?) at the starting dose of 20 mg. I read in that same book that that equals about 80 mg of Zoloft. So a better starting dose for Zoloft would be 75 mg. Unfortunately, & I don't know why but Pfizer doesn't make a 75 mg Zoloft pill even though I think that may have been the perfect dose for me (& worked well for my sister). You would have to get a script for 15 100 mg pills & 15 50 mg pills & use a pill splitter to cut them in half to get a 75 mg dose (not exactly a perfect science).
I guess you could start at 100 mg. That dose worked well for me until I became manic & could not sleep at night. Right now I take generic prozac 20 mg & it doesn't seem quite as strong as 100 mg Zoloft but it still works well & has not caused any manic symptoms & although I did have trouble sleeping & terrible anorgasmia for the 1st month but I guess i've gotten used to it cause now I sleep fine & can orgasm after about 20-30 minutes. I noticed with any SSRI you must avoid alcohol entirely or your depression comes back full force with a vengence along with your hangover the next day. It is also super cheap in the generic. I bought 90 of them online for $67!

I am finding that seems about right .... I was thinking 30mgs of Prozac was about 100 of Zoloft. I am using 450 of lithium to augment zoloft, but I think I have BP 3 or 4 and it is stablizing me (my father is BP 2). Are you using stablizer? Thanks ...
