Posted by mmcconathy on January 15, 2005, at 22:30:58

I am having HORRIBLE insomnia, i mean HORRIBLE!!

I dont know what happens, i cnat move but i see things around me that are very disturbibng, but im PARALYZED!! i cnat breath, im smothered. This happens during the night, i belive thery are just disturbing nightmares.

My pdoc has told me these are night terrors.

I dont know if im being psychologically or spiritually disturbed but anyways that doenst relate to this post.

Halcion has been proven to be a potent hypnotic, but i need some talk.

Help me please, and if you can help with any of this night terror stuff, please give me advice.

Good day

Matt

Is this genetically caused insomnia, anxiety driven insomnia, or medication caused insomnia.. sometimes getting to the root helps.

A feeling of paralysis, a state of semi-consciousness while still being partially asleep is known as sleep paralysis and sounds partially what you're experiencing. Its as old as humanity and is accentuated by some medications. Its disconcerting but lessened so by not fighting the stasis.

Have you exhausted other existing hypnotics with safer track records such as Ambien (regardless of what has been stated about it, it can and has been used long term... I know by personal experience), or Sonata (works for some). Lunesta should be out in a week and joins the class for a third medication.

Halcion may be cheaper as it and Dalmane are generic as far as I know, but they suffer from more daytime depression, somewhat more tolerance than the newer hypnotics and a somewhat more dangerous curve of overdose. But these are things to talk to your doctor about.

Maybe someone who has taken Halcion can directly comment. I've personally taken Dalmane and I found it wierdly potent, but that was just one experience.

Hope that adds some words to your search for sleep

I took Halcion for Abilify induced insomnia. It worked really well. I did develop a tolerance for it, going from .25 to .5 mg in about a month. I stopped the abilify but I still use Halcion (Triazolam) for sleep on an as-needed basis.

hello there, chemist here: let's address all the issues. Halcion is the trade name from Upjohn, and the substance is a triazolo-1,4-benzodiazepine (c.f. alprazolam, adinazolam, and estazolam). my advice is that if you take a medication that induces night terrors and paralysis, then you ought to consult with your physician and remedy the situation quickly: this means STOP TAKING IT. Halcion is a short-acting drug and some rebound insomnia will likely occur. however, that is all academic: paralysis and night terrors? why on earth are you taking the medication? all the best, chemist
