Cymbalta vs. Zoloft vs. Lexapro - New Doc, New Med

Posted by invisiblemanpa on December 16, 2004, at 8:02:14

Hi Group,

I have not posted in awhile since I have been struggling with the frustration of finding a new clinic and new meds. I left my previous clinic after being told, after a year and half that my Psychiatrist or therapist could no longer see me due to changes in my insurance. In the long run it was probably a blessing as the Psy.doc. mainly prescribed what I gleamed off of here and the net and the therapist was just someone to talk to ..no advice on overcoming depression and anxiety. Anyway the clinic switched me to another Dr., that made it clear that he did not understand why he had to treat me as I was another doctors patient, would not listen to any of my history, problems, etc. Only asked what I wanted scripts for then out the door. A complete heartless, uncaring, unprofessional jackass. Well I filed complaints against him and the clinic....still in the process...and went off to search for a new Dr...what a nightmare...most clinics were not taking new patients, were geared towards seniors only or would not take my blue cross as it was through cobra nor would they accept the copay thru the state as my other doctors have and not just head doctors. So I am back to square one, going to see the last Dr. at the clinic that I started with...and hopefully a new therapist.

Big question is I was left in a lurch concerning meds., that whacked Psychiatrist that I saw one time, took me off of Cymbalta, I was on week four and depression symptons had come back strong, and left me on Remeron and Klonopin, So?? Any suggestions...I had no side effects from Cymbalta except the rebound depression and no clear benefit at week four, give it another try?? Try Lexapro or Zoloft? I have severe depression with very severe socail anxiety. It has destroyed my professional and personal life. I tried Paxil and it made me very very sick. Prozac, Effexor XR did nothing as did Buspar. I would like to get on one of the Prozac clones, that would reduce and control my depression and anxiety and then use benzos as a backup. They are the only med that I have used that has clearly benefited me. I was able to attend meetings, church, speak up, etc. But one Dr. I spoke with last week was of the class that no Benzos under any circumstance. Screw that noise. What is the differance with being weaned off of Klonopin or Xanax, compared to the horrible withdrawls from Paxil or Effexor. Plus the damage they do to your bodies....anyway..just fishing for some suggestions...as I await my next meeting with another new Psy...probably will be another blow off...then off to search again.......one clinic said if I used them I would have to participate in their 4 day a week 8 hour a day intensive group therapy session...so I passed quite quickly on that........

Peace, love & happiness (mabye someday for all of us!)

Ed

Hey mama,
I found that lex was pretty effective for me. s/e's were difficult at first but are now almost non existence. Not perfect as some depression and anxiety seems to reoccur from time to time, but a definite improvement.
Hope things get better for you soon.
Best - Steve
