I am one of the unfortunate people who are going through the terrible symptoms of Effexor withdrawl. I decided to go cold turkey (probably not the best idea, today being day two, but determined) and am about to lose my mind. My head is aching, I feel like I am going to throw up, I am jittery and have vertigo.
I've been on 75 mg for almost 2 years and feel like I might be ok without the meds and would like to try to live without them. I have mild depression.
I am afraid that once I finally get free of Effexor, I will become depressed again and need to go through the horrible side effects of getting back on it.
I'd like some feed back on if people find that they need to get back on it after some period of time being off.

I got off by getting down to the lowest dose and then alternating taking the med every other day for about a week. I also took Benadryl at night because I developed an itchy rash that kept me awake. By tomorrow, you may very well be feeling more depressed than you have ever felt in your life, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is the same as your original depression. The Effexor withdrawal made me feel worse than I did to begin with. Please read about L-Tryptophan at www.healthrecovery.com and give it a try. It is very effective for mild depression, anxiety, and sleeping problems. That's what I'm using and it works for me. However, don't mix it with antidepressants. Keep us posted on how your withdrawal is going. I will not ever go back on Effexor and I probably will not ever go back on any antidepressant of any kind. I no longer trust doctors, the pharmaceutical industry, or the FDA.

My T was kind enough to tell me what the pdoc wouldn't-- there is a re-bound effect of major depression for approximately two months during/after full withdrawal.
Hang in there, if you can get through the two months, you'll be okay. I did it- though I must say that I went down to the 37.5 capsules, then actually went down to opening the 37.5 capsules, pouring about half out, then doing THAT for a couple more days...If you can deal with the cold turkey- go for it... if not, try that way... It worked for me, might for you, too!
Good luck either way !
