I need input regarding poss medication change. To make a very long story very short: I am 17 months clean from methamphetamine, I have thyroid cancer, and epilepsy. I currently take Lamictal for seizures, Levothroid as I have had surgery for complete removal of thyroid, and Celexa for severe depression and GAD. I have gone off of my Celexa 3 times in the past 17 months and have ended up in a Psych ward everytime due to severe depression and suicidal thoughts/behaviors. I did MASSIVE damage to my brain by entering a meth related psychosis. Dopamine centers are shot in my brain. I have now lost my insurance and cannot afford Celexa. My husband takes Effexor and I am thinking of switching as it is available. Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

Effexor might be a better med to help with meth problems. Effexor has effects on norepinephrine which is not unlike meth.

Generic Celexa is now available (citalopram). My brother-in-law is on 40mg/day and he told me a month's supply cost him $42 (I think that's right).

My doc was very cautious with my meds. I don't need to be on anything that is habit forming. I am supposed to be on Celexa 60mg, but it costs about 100$ a month. My Lamictal runs me about 200$ a month. Levothroid 20$ and Trazodone 20$ The Effexor would be at no cost to me.

In reply to Is Effexor habit forming?, posted by BeccaA on December 1, 2004, at 13:52:03
Effexor is no more habit forming than celexa is.
It is habit forming in that it is hard to discontinue, but not in the sence that you need to continue increasing your dose to get an effect.
