I smoked pot and got so horny I had to go into my friend's bathroom and get myself off.
Maybe I should smoke more pot, since depression and antidepressants have both seriously dampened my sexual function.
What does pot do to the brain that could make someone horny? And is this a common effect or not?

Normaly they say pot is suppost to reduce sex drive. Maybe if you smoked it with an atractive person it could arrouse you, especialy in small quantities. This would make it an inhibiter.

Pot, along with other drugs of abuse, activate the neucleus accumbens, thought the D3 receptor.
Pot is a more of a mood stabalizer than it is an antidepressant. It may be good for your sexual function, but I would not trust it as being an antidepressant you can live your everyday life on.

could benefit from prescribed mood stabilizers are more likely to currently preferably self-medicate with pot? My husband is so uptight and irritable and angry w/o pot that I'm trying to talk him into getting treatment. I think he may be bi-polar. If pot is not available, he uses alcohol.
Any comments???

It makes you feel good, that's why it's illegal <grin> ... makes me horny too but not necessarily sociable.

Colleen,
As a fellow potsmoker _and_ BPII, I'd be inclined to let him smoke up if it helps his situation. I self-medicated with pot for 20 years before I was diagnosed BPII. I still smoke daily and find that it helps with my motivation (of all things!).
He's better off smoking pot than drinking, in my experience (if he's really BPII), and pot is cheap compared to seeing a pdoc regularly.
Suggest to him that maybe _someday_ he might want to talk to a pdoc (one that sees a lot of addiction cases) just to see what it is all about. Make sure it's not threatening, as your husband has _some_ ideas about the nature of his own demons, even if he won't share that with you (speaking from experience here).
Does your husband sleep OK? If not, work on that, as good sleep really helps a person have a solid mental foundation for dealing with what the day brings you. How about nutrition? There are many things you can help him work on without talking him into stepping away from the pipe.
If he can (at least partially) solve some of the issues that he self-medicates for, he is much more likely to reduce his intake of pot. See if he can "skip a day" once in a while, make it a special evening with just you and him. He's likely to be receptive to that - just to prove to both of you that he can miss a day and still feel OK.
Self-medicating people have found _something_ that helps with their problems (in their opinion). You may not see it that way, but they are trying to cope.
Hope this helps.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but it would be cheaper for him to see a pdoc and take a prescription med(s) with the way our insurance coverage is. I told him that like me, he needs something to make him feel okay and pot cannot be the answer because his use of it has nearly brought us to bankruptcy. At $50 - 60 a 1/4 oz. which he can easily use up in less than a week, I think we'd all be better off if he took a different route. His getting a formal evaluation and getting on meds may make or break our marriage!
Thanks for your response! You must be able to get it for dirt cheap where you are.

He may have bipolar disorder or perhaps just depression/anger disorder.
Pot is not something you want to use on a daily basis. Smoke form pot, because of its density and propensity to linger, is more likely to cause lung caner etc, than cigarette smoke.
If your husband has periods of depression then he may be bipolar, if it is just an anger problem, then he might respond well to an anticonvulsant or some lithium.
Pot can be a strong mood stabalizer, so in reality if he was to seek treatment, he would need
to abstain for a month and see what happens to his mood at this point.Linkadge

Since I started smoking grass my sex life is noticeably different and better. To be blunt, I prefer it with. My fiancé smokes regularly, like me, and we enjoy the effects together. Please let me be clear, there are other less enchanting effects of smoking joints and I wouldn't advise anyone to start.
I also smoke to calm myself down when I come home from a stressfull day, that's the best joint of the whole evening, the first one.
Here is a link about people who have found smoking grass has a good effect, and may even work as a mood stabiliser :

Yes, pot makes me so horny I can spontaneously orgasm (male) without touching anything--and for years Ive had trouble even having a libido or real orgasm (depression). I usd it with my girlfriend and it makes sex like 10 times more otherworldy and epic--in a good way. I think Id agree with the other responder who said they prefer sex with pot to sex without it.
Before 6 months of Lexapro pot just made me more anxious than normal. NOw it relieves my anhedonia.
Im diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, virtually ADD, anhedonic with an disconnect between my mand-body.. Im curious about the history of the others here who are made so horny by pot. Maybe we all have something vaguely common in our disorders.

1. Until (if ever) he gets off pot, buy in bulk! LIke, an ounce at a time if you can find a dealer you trust.
2. Solution to smoke effects...eat it. Recipes are on the net. Another plus to this is that, though it takes longer in its effects, it is stronger so you can use less (pot experts may correct me on this one--I may be remembering wrong).
3. Once I took 3 5-HTP and 3 Tyrosine supplement capsules (white powder kind) 30 minutes before taking ONE hit of pot. Soon I was flying for over an hour. It was good pot, but I suspect not that good. (When I had smoked before I would take multiple hits without much effect except anxiety.) It should be possible to find a doseage of one or both of those supp's that enhance the pot without totally tripping out.
Im sure there are other things people have found increase the effectiveness of pot and its google-able..

No it takes a lot more to get high eating it but lasts longer. Roughly a week's supply will have you flying for 12 hours versus a few hours smoked. I've heard of a device called a vaporizer that is more efficient without the actual buringin & perhaps less carcinogens.
I've heard people say they have good therapeutic results using low doses of pot but frankly I like the stuff too much to stop at a small puff. I can give it a break for a while though, for a month or two...

read this
linkhttp://cannabis.net/canusedisorder/index.html
I took a puff once, and it left me paranoid for the rest of the day.
Stuff was *really* bright. I went exercising,
and had some chocolate (exercising and chocolate boost a substance called anandamide which binds to the same receptor as THC.) Anyhow it was funky,
stuff was unbalievably bright and dark at the same time.
