Hi, I have posted alot about medication on this board. And some people are shocked to hear the dosaages of some of my meds. And when I read some of these post I begin to wonder myself.
I have always been hesitant about medication. Never liked to take them. But when I got down with depression, anxiety and OCD I was begging for some relief. I was scared everytime I took the meds in the beggining because I didn't like the way they made me feel.
I have never done drugs nor do I drink alcohol. So, the physical effects of some of the meds took some getting use to.
I am a 28 year old male and weigh approx. 170lbs. My pdoc and neurologist has me on 60mg of Lexapro, 4mg of Klonopin, 1,800mg of Trileptal, and 30mg of Remeron.
I have asked my docs if this is exessive of harmful but they do regular blood work and keep an eye on it.
But what concerns me now is that I have been on them long enough that if I miss a dose I start getting sick.
Does anyone else take this much medication.

Hi
My mom is a doctor, and she says:
Trileptal has a maximum dose of 2400 mg, Remeron has a maximum dose of 45, 60 of lexapro is common for anxiety and commonly 20 mg for depression, and for Klonopin 7 mg would be the maximum dose for your weight. She says that physically it wont hurt you as long as you keep getting your liver and stuff checked. She doesn't think you sound over medicated if you have a significant mood disorder and anxiety. Of course, she doesnt know you. You probably know all of this, but I thought it might help. My mom is very reliable and had been helping me manage my bipolar/OCD meds for years.

Hi, I thank both you and your mom for that info.
Sounds like you have a wonderful mom.
Wish you the best.

Hi,
BRC, do you find the high dose Lexapro more effective than lower doses eg. 20mg/day?

Hi, for depression and generalized anxiety Lexapro max. dose is 20mg so that should help for those problems.
But I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and the dose is generally higher and takes alot longer to work.
So, if you have OCD I would say that it works a little at highr doses.
Hope that helped.

Hi :-) Thank you for responding.......
What I meant was: did you take a lower dose of Lexapro for long enough to find out whether it would be sufficient? ...or, did you increase rapidly up to the 60mg dose. I know high doses are often used for OCD but I thought you might (possibly) be able to reduce your Lexapro dose without impairing it's effectiveness.
Regards,
Ed

Sorry, for the misunderstanding. No I started off at 10mg for a while. Then moved up to 20mg for at least 6-8 months with no change. So, after almost two years my pdoc. has got me on 60mg.
If I move any lower it doesn't have the same effect.

Brian, only you are going to know if you are overmedicated. Do you think you need each med and are you on the least effective dose for you? Are the side effects tolerable? If yes then don't make yourself more anxious.
This is the end of the thread.
