clonazepam is marketed as an antiepileptic medicatation. Would an epileptic take this continually or would it only be for an acute attack ??

Seizures, being an unpredictable event (for the most part), requires continuous blood levels of an anticonvulsant to control. The person I know had one (1) seizure of unknown etiology and will require continuous use of a AC for at least 5 years.
While an AC, I'm not sure how often clonazapam is used these days in light of other AC's available.

Hello Linkadge....
There are three uses for clonazepam in epilepsy:1. Long term prevention of seizures. Significant tolerance to the antiepileptic action commonly occurs after several weeks or months of continuous therapy. As a result other antiepileptics are usually preferred. Tolerance to the anxiolytic effect seems to occur more gradually and is less complete.
2. Emergency treatment of acute prolonged seizures (status epilepticus). The usual initial dose is 1mg IV.
3. Short term prevention of seizures eg. seizures caused by a high fever, or short term treatment of exacerbations of chronic epilepsy.

I guess that was what I was getting at: does an epileptic build up a tollerance to the anticonvusant effects of clonazepam.
I hate whoever invented the whole system. Our best pain relievers(opiates), antidepressants(speedballs), and antianxiety agents (benzodiazapines) are really just a fleeting moment of sanity. Why can't the gods give us something sustainable that works so well. (Ie I have already built up a tolerance to 3mg of clonazepam and the anxiety has come back full force.

Yes, epileptics do usually develop tolerance to the anti-convulsant effect.

I'm really sorry about that for you. I'm 3 years and mine is still working well without difficulties with tolerance. Medical dependence is another issue, but one I'm willing to accept.
I know I'm unigue and this problem does happen for alot. I read your posts and I know you have struggled a great deal lately. I hope things can work out for you.
