Abilify and sleepiness-how long?

Posted by sedona on October 27, 2004, at 13:48:18

I started taking Abilify (5 mg) a few days ago and I have been very sleepy ever since. I tried taking it at night and in the morning, but it hasn't made a difference. How long should this side-effect last?

Thanks

Sedona. You may be getting a larger effective dose of Abilify than you think. Abilify is metabolized by the CYP2D6 enzyme and Cymbalta is a CYP2D6 inhibitor. Cymbalta is also metabolized by the CYP2D6 enzyme -- bottom line is that you can't tell the exact equivalent dose of Abilify you are getting when you take it with Cymbalta.

With that said, I also take Abilify (15mgs/day) with 60mgs/day of Cymbalta and I also have daytime sleepiness. I have been taking Abilify since it first came onto the market.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, my doctor only wanted me to start with 5 mg since I am taking Cymbalta. I just hope the sleepiness will pass soon.
