nardil - what does it do for social anxiety?

Posted by jonh kimble on October 16, 2004, at 21:08:23

What effect will I get from Nardil should it work? I am terrified during conversations that I am not saying enough or ill get awkward which ends up happening alot, what people think of me, Im boring, I really ruminate on what I said or did and am constantly evaluating my performance and social status. I refure to get involved in realtionships becuse of potential rejection etc... Also is it like a benzo in that it will work basically work no matter what given a high enough dose? Has anyone tried it and it didnt work at all? Thanks

I'm starting my 10th week on Nardil currently taking 75mg. I also take 0.25 of Klonopin per day.

Yes, the N has relaxxed me in social situations although the effects are not (yet) 100% or as good as a 2.0 mg dose of Klonopin. However, I thinkI needto increase my N to 90.

I rarely hearof N not working. It is the side effects that cause people tostop taking it.

What dose was it at and when did it hit? Was it one morning just like wow! Or slowly? I took it for a while at a really low dose, then eventually went up to 60mgs for 1-2 weeks and quit. Most retarted thing I ever did. But I may well be starting up again on monday so I guess I just gotta go full tilt. Why such a low dose of klonopin when a higher works better, may I ask?

Based on the observation that my sleep seemed to improve when I first started on Nardil at 3 x 15 mg/day, I believe there is a GABA effect even at this dosage. The improvement in sleep went away after several days, perhaps analogous as to how one might build up tolerance to a benzo sleep med. My general anxiety levels are not high enough for me to have noticed a big effect from the Nardil, but it did definitely make me more sociable at dosages of 75 mg/day and higher. I don't know if you saw my reply to your post up above, but I believe it would generally be considered unwise to start at a high dose right away. This is an effective drug, but it does have a lot of side effects, and I think it's better to work your way up in dosage.

The positive effects of N developed gradually. This makes it harded to realize the impact that it has had. However, before N I was constantly anxious and working things over and over again in my head. I don't do that now. As far as being more sociable, I am more at ease and I joke around with people, however, there are still situations that make me uncomfortable. But this is true for all people, everyone is socially anxious at times.

The klonopin I try to keep at a lower dose because I do not want to become too dependent upon it. I prefer to take just as much as I need. Also, at medium doses (2mg) I get very tired and by the end of the day I am wiped out and have no energy for the family.
